Before you can begin day-to-day warehouse operations, it’s essential to configure your WMS with the foundational setup. These configurations ensure accurate inventory handling, streamlined processes, and smooth system usage.
✅ 1. Zone & Location Setup
- Define zones (e.g., inbound type, outbound type, all type).
- Create locations within each zone, assigning location types (e.g., pallet, rack, bin).
- Set location rules like capacity, item type, and access restrictions.
✅ 2. User Roles & Permissions
- Create system user accounts for staff.
- Assign roles (admin, worker, user) with appropriate permissions to access specific modules and functions.
✅ 3. Customer & Supplier Setup
- Add your customer and supplier master data.
- Include relevant billing, shipping, and contact details for each party.
✅ 4. Item Master
- Input item details including SKU, item name, dimensions, weight, and tracking method (lot/serial/expiry).
- Assign package(s) to item associating with different unit of measures (UOM).
- Enable appropriate inventory flags (e.g., hazardous, temperature-sensitive).
✅ 5. Package Master
- Define package UOM (e.g., carton, pallet, crate).
- Configure packaging rules including dimensions, weight limits, and pick put rules.
✅ 6. Warehouse Rules & Pick/Put Rules
- Set warehouse operation rules for receiving, putaway, picking, replenishment, and shipping.
- Configure pick path sequencing, putaway logic, and other system-driven task strategies.
✅ 7. Printer, Print Station & Barcode Configuration
- Set up and assign printers to zones (e.g., label printer at packing station).
- Create print stations and assign roles (e.g., packing slip, inventory tag).
- Configure barcode formats (1D/2D), and link barcode rules to item labels, bin labels, and documents.
